Jalapeño Turkey Sliders (with a Mango Guacamole)
I recently made this for my girlfriends as a light and easy bite for when we got together with wine. I love the burger itself! I liked this bacon cheddar, but my friend uses shredded pepper jack, so you can make it what you want. The topping could be optional, or even made with just avocado and/or tomatoes, but i love the touch of sweetness the mango brings to to.
For the Mango Guacamole:
- 2 mango, diced
- 1 avocado, diced
- 1/4 cucumber, diced
- 1 jalapeno, finely diced
- 1/4 bunch cilantro, chopped
- juice of 1 lime (or to taste)
- Salt, to taste
For the Turkey Burger
- Olive oil for the pan / grilling
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- ¼ to ½ cup finely chopped jalapeño peppers, seeds removed (I used the food processor for both sets )
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1-pound ground turkey
- 1 cup grated cheese (I used a bacon cheddar, but Tawnya likes Pepper Jack)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions:
Make Burgers: Coat the bottom of a medium-large sauté pan
with the oil and place it over medium heat.
Add the onion, jalapeños, and garlic and sauté
until the onions are soft, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool to room
temperature.
Once the onion mixture has cooled, in a large
mixing bowl, combine it with the turkey, cheese, salt, cumin and pepper.
Use you hands (if after food processor) to blend all of the ingredients together so they are evenly
distributed.
Cook burgers on the grill, grill pan, or cast iron skillet. (Make sure the grill/pan is hot to get a good sear/crust.) Cook for about 3 minutes each side, until cooked through, about 8 minutes total; depends on the size of the slider.
