Seared Ahi Tuna Bites

  • Seared Ahi Tuna Bites

I had the ladies over the week and wanted to make some 'fancy, yet easy.'  This appetizer is exactly that.  Once you marinade the fish, it only take a few minutes to cook, and it's just slicing and serving from there.  The addition of the sriracha mayo ads just a little kick to contrast the tuna and crunchy cucumber.

  • Ingredients:
  • 1-inch fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon
  • 1 tablespoon lime
  • 1/2 pound ahi tuna, cut into about 1 sq. in strips
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 cup guacamole
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnish (optional-I forgot them!)
  • Spicy Mayonnaise

    • 1/4 cup organic mayonnaise
    • 2 teaspoons sriracha sauce

  • Directions:
In a baking dish (8x8) or gallon bag, combine ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, lemon juice, lime juice, and tuna.  Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Heat skillet on medium high heat until hot. Place tuna pieces in pan and cook 30 seconds on each side until just brown. (You want the tuna to remain raw inside.) Remove from pan and let cool. You can refrigerate the tuna at this point until serving time. When ready to use, slice into 1 cm slices.

Combine mayo and sriracha - adjust heat to your liking.

Layer each bite: Cucumber slices, dollop of guacamole, slice of tuna, drop of sriracha mayo. Serve chilled.
